Wedding centerpieces are important to your wedding theme

You're getting married, and there are so many things to think about and get just right; from the wedding gown of the bride, to the personalized napkins, to the wedding invitations, to the wedding centerpieces. The list goes on and on, you want everything just right and no unpleasant surprises on your magic day.

Speaking of wedding centerpieces, have you chosen yours yet? You want your wedding reception to go without a hitch and impress upon your guests that your dream day has been well planned. Wedding centerpieces can be simple or contemporary; traditional or complex; but they need to carry the theme of your wedding well.

Candle centerpieces are always popular and accept a floral arrangement very well. Did you know that you can even have custom printed candles? You can if you chose, and miniature lanterns or water candles are also possibilities that you should consider. You want your wedding centerpieces to stand out and accentuate your wedding decor. Make your reception the dream come true that you have always wanted. Plan your wedding well and try not to have any unexpected surprises. After all, it is your wedding, your special day; it's all about you so make it right!

Wedding invitations set the theme of your wedding

One of the first thoughts you have when you start planning your wedding is about wedding invitations and what design will best fit your wedding. Wedding invitations can actually help set the whole direction of your special day, since they will be the first thing that your potential guests will see. For example, if you want to have a western inspired wedding with cowboys and cowgirls, you would certainly want your wedding invitations to have a western theme; perhaps something rustic or made to look like an old wanted poster.
Along with the wedding invitations you send out, you will also want to include RSVP cards so your guests can easily respond to tell you if they are going to be able to attend. RSVP cards can be simple with only basic information, or they can be more involved to include guests food preferences, allergies, etc.

When you set down to prepare your wedding invitations, it is important to use proper etiquette. Be thoughtful of your guests and their needs in addition to planning your wedding in an way that will make your day the most special of your life. It is necessary to have everything thought out well, such as; who is paying for the wedding? Will both families be equally involved? Who will be the host of your wedding? Give it a lot of thought, do some research online, and make your wedding a day that you and everyone else will remember forever!

How to stop smoking and live to tell the tale

So you want to quit smoking. Let me guess, you have tried before but just couldn't stick it out. Maybe you have even tried it many times. It is amazing how something so tiny and nondescript as a cigarette can cause you to have such strong feelings of panic and irritability when you don't have one. I remember those feelings all too well. Once, a long time ago I decided to stop smoking. I was on my last pack and I made up my mind to quit, psyched myself up, then courageously ripped the remaining cigarettes to pieces and threw them out the door into the yard. A couple of hours later I was outside on my hands and knees, searching in the dark for a bit of cigarette large enough to smoke. If I had flushed them instead it would have meant a trip to the store to buy more. I psyched myself up many times to quit smoking but it never seemed to help. I tried cutting down. I tried quitting but taking a puff or two just when I felt I had to have it to survive. I tried substituting candy, sunflower seeds, gum, food, you name it, but nothing worked. I even tried switching to snuff and chewing tobacco to stop smoking. All that accomplished was to get me hooked on that as well as cigarettes. Then I had two habits to kick instead of one. Actually I did quit smoking many times for varying amounts of time. Once I quit for 15 months and then went back to my habit. What a fool I was that time! Probably there is nothing in this world that is more addicting than nicotine. Eventually I did stop smoking for good. Now I have been tobacco free for nearly 9 years!

MIND GAMES

How did I do it? I found a way that made it possible, although still difficult. I recalled how my mind would play tricks on me every time I tried to quit tobacco. If I suffered through all or most of a day without a cigarette my mind would tell me things like "Good job! You did great and you deserve a reward, have a cigarette"! When I had managed to go for several days or even weeks without a cigarette my mind would say "Atta boy! You have now kicked the habit. You can now safely have a puff or two, even a whole cigarette won't hurt you because you are cured of the habit! Go ahead and smoke one, just to see if they still taste good". Of course when I did what my mind (and heart) were telling me to do I was instantly hooked right back on the nasty habit again. I was actually hooked the whole time, I was never "cured" like my mind led me to believe. Let me tell you this. Once an addict always an addict. When you quit you can NEVER touch cigarettes again. Just one puff will be your downfall as it was mine. You MUST make up your mind to that before you take the next step.  Does the story above sound familiar? It has been played out millions of times by millions of people. Nicotine is a very addictive drug and your mind and body will play any trick they can to get their fix. Common sense goes right out the window where nicotine is concerned. Don't underestimate nicotine and its paralyzing hold. It is not only a powerful drug, it is also a powerful poison. I read one that the nicotine contained in just one cigarette was enough to kill an adult, if your body could absorb it instantly. Fortunately it absorbs more slowly so we live to suffer longer, and get more addicted.

MIND GAMES YOU CAN PLAY ON YOURSELF

So how did I stop smoking? I decided to be the one that played mind games on myself, instead of letting the nicotine do it. Here is the kicker and what gave me strength to pull through. I never quit. Yep that’s what I said, I never quit. So why did I say earlier that I did quit? Because I did. Pretty confusing huh! Actually I did quit, by not quitting. Even more confusing now I know but let me explain. One night as I was getting ready for bed I decided once again that I would like to stop smoking. I decided that this time I would do it relatively stress free and if I didn't succeed it was no big deal. I would just try over and over until I did succeed. I did not psyche myself up like I had before. In fact I didn't even tell myself I was going to quit smoking. I didn't tell myself that I couldn't have a cigarette. I didn't make promises that I didn't know if I was brave enough to keep. I just decided to make an attempt and do my best.  What I did was just go calmly to bed, after smoking a cigarette, slept well, and woke the next morning craving a cigarette. I told myself that I could have one if I wanted it, but I didn't have to have it right then. I could wait a minute or two. Also I had a few of the nicotine patches left from previous attempts. I put one of those on and went about my business. Soon the craving increased, but for once panic didn't set in. Why? Because I hadn't stopped smoking yet, I had only put it off for the time being. Well, to make a long story short I made it all the way through that day tobacco free! The next day I again put on a fresh nicotine patch and postponed having a cigarette. Surprisingly I made it through that day too. The third day, same thing. Fourth day, I cut 2/3 from one of the patches and wore that instead of a whole patch. Smoke free again. Fifth day, another 2/3 piece, then sixth and seventh days I wore the 1/3 piece I had cut off the other patches. Then I went off the patches completely. I stopped smoking with a total of five nicotine patches that I trimmed to last for seven days!

NO SUBSTITUTES

So what about fixing the craving? For the first couple of weeks I allowed myself anything to eat, chew, or hold in my mouth that I wanted. But after that I cut back to regular meals and sometimes a snack. I did not allow myself to substitute the usual candy or sunflower seeds like I had before. Why? It is simple and its another mind game you have to play with yourself. Anything you substitute for tobacco BECOMES tobacco to your mind. You are only feeding your craving when you stick something in your mouth to take the place of cigarettes. Trust me on this, if you eat candy, chew gum, or whatever, you are constantly reminding yourself of what you really want in your mouth, a cigarette. Don't do it. After the first couple of weeks you can make it without the substitutes! Is it easy? Of course not, it is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I kept part of a pack of cigarettes in the house until just a couple of months ago. I had never really quit. I had just postponed smoking for 6 1/2 years. Finally I threw the aged yellowed pack in the trash. Now I have finally quit smoking, and you can too! Probably the most important element of quitting cigarettes is simply that you have to WANT to stop. If you do desire to be tobacco free, you can be. Make the choice and do it with less stress like I did. Remember that even though you may not be able to stop smoking, you can certainly postpone having a cigarette, indefinitely, it worked for me!

We had a wonderful vacation

My wife and I have been on vacation for the last week and a half. We had a wonderful time. We went to St Louis and met some of my wife’s family there. It was the first time my wife had seen her oldest sister in about 13 years, and her other sister in 7 or 8 years. We all went to Six Flags and split the day between the main park and the water park, Hurricane Harbor. Ana, the older sister came home with us and spent a couple of days before she had to return to Detroit. I spent 2 nights in a hotel in St Louis with my wife, her sister Ana, and their mother. There was a lot of joking and giggling going on. I wish I had a video of it all. The girls were teasing their mother that I might slip into bed with her in the middle of the night. It was making her kind of mad lol.

 IMG_0100

We took a lot of pictures, and made a lot of unforgettable memories. The picture above is my mother in law, wife, sis Nora, and sis Ana. They are all beautiful ladies. I also got to meet Roger, my bro in law, married to Nora. He is a super guy and we had a lot of fun together. Hope all of you had a good holiday. Tomorrow it’s back to work!

Hope our weather is finally getting better

This has been the driest and hottest summer already that I can remember. Last summer was hot and dry also but this year the grass on our lawn is dead. Just a lot of nearly bare dirt showing. I don’t know what the rest of the year will bring, but yesterday we finally got a small shower of rain. Today it’s cooler and it feels so good and refreshing. The air is not full of heat and dust like it has been. We have chances of rain for the next couple of days; I hope we get a lot. My wife and I have been watering our garden from our small pond, but the pond is getting very low on water too. The garden has been difficult this year; first it was the deer that kept eating it at night while we slept, then it was the heat and dryness. We finally built a fence about 8 feet tall around the garden and kept the deer out. They had already butchered a lot of the plants, but most of them are re-growing now. We just had some stir fry made from our fresh veggies. Pretty yummy. It was so dry here that fireworks were banned. I didn’t see or hear even one firecracker go off.

Handicapped equipped vans can make life much easier

If you are disabled, or know someone who is, you know just how difficult even the smallest tasks can become if you don't have the proper equipment. It's important to give handicapped people every chance we can to make their lives easier and more productive. One of the most important things is to ensure proper transportation, which in most cases would include vans for handicapped.

Having spent some time with handicapped people I know first hand just how much more simple it is to have a van equipped with a wheelchair lift and all of the proper contrivances to enable easy loading and unloading. It makes the old way of having to physically lift the handicapped person obsolete.

Quality of life is everything. I always try to remember that it's not the number of breaths that we take, it's the number of things we experience that takes our breath away. That rule applies to handicapped people as well as healthy people. Being able to travel more easily in a specially equipped handicap van is just one of many ways to make our "special" people happier.

Writers block and a black bear

I seem to have hit a brick wall in my writing lately. Now I know what it means when a professional writer gets stagnant and can’t write for a period of time. I used to be full of ideas and couldn’t wait to get home so I could write about them. Now I am blank and nothing seems worthy to write about. Every time I work hard and get my page rank up, Google comes along and cuts it for no apparent reason. A few months later my rank will come back, even if I don’t change anything on my blog. It’s discouraging and I wish Google would come up with some definite rules to judge page rank, instead of letting their idiot crawler run rampant destroying the value of people’s hard work.

On a happier note, I am glad that it’s spring. The weather here is wonderful this week; cool nights and warm days. My wife has planted a garden and it’s growing well. Soon we should have some fresh veggies and peaches from our peach tree. It’s loaded with fruit this year. Hopefully it won’t all get eaten by insects. We built a fence around our garden this year to keep out the wild animals, such as deer.

Speaking of wild animals, I seen a bear on the way home from work today. it ran across the highway and the car in front of me nearly hit it. Since there wasn’t any cars behind me I stopped and said “hello big boy” to it. The bear turned and looked at me, then went on off through the woods. Pretty neat, but I have seen many bears in the past, and have had several here in the yard. A couple of young ones climbed trees when our dog barked at them. I love living in the country!

Learning Before I Move

Contributed by Milford Woods

My husband and I are moving to Texas in a few months, so I have been trying to learn all I can. I want to have a smooth transition, and I feel like part of making that happen is knowing what to expect. I am from New York, so it doesn’t get much more different than Texas. I don’t want to seem like a fool when I meet new people so I need to do some serious reading. I want to do some research on the area we are moving to, and have some leads on clubs and activities I can join to make friends. I don’t want to be that woman who depends on her husband for all of her social interaction. I am way too social for that. When I started looking for an apartment I stumbled across a website that said you can shop electricity rates texas. That was an interesting little tidbit I picked up that might help us save some cash when I get there. I’m looking forward to the move, and I can’t wait to get there

Goodbye old friend

Today I was surprised to find out that one of my old and dear friends had died suddenly. I seen him just last weekend walking around and looking healthy. I have no idea what took his life but I will miss him. He was older than me and I remember when I was a young man; fresh away from home, He took a liking to me, a perfect stranger, and took me under his wing and helped me find jobs when I had no work, loaned me money when I was broke and in need, and had me in his home to visit him and his wife and kids many times. Over the years I stopped visiting with my friend and the years passed swiftly by. Upon discovering his death I realize how many years it has been since I was in his home and how much I will miss him and the friendship he always gave to me. I remember swimming and getting sunburned, jumping off a swing into the river, going hunting, playing cards, eating, laughing; so many things, but all many years ago.

Sometimes we take friendships for granted as I have done and we don’t know until it’s too late just how much they mean to us. Troy always made much of me, even when I didn’t feel like much. He wasn’t close to many people, but he wanted to be close to me. I remember once that he had unexpected visitors on a day when he had invited me over to visit long ago. He asked the visitors to leave so they wouldn’t infringe on our time to visit together. Troy worked hard for many years and had just retired a couple of years ago. He looked hale and healthy, and I thought he would be around for a long time. I thought that I had a lot of years to be his friend, when I found the time. Time has run out and now he is gone suddenly, without warning. Goodbye old friend and may God rest your soul, and may you live again someday in a place more special than this.….

Moving To Hartford

I appreciate the guest post, Marian Combs

I am from a small town, so when I moved to Hartford I was intimidated. My hometown was so small we only had one stoplight, and I had to go to a high school 30 miles away. I know that moving to Hartford isn’t moving to the biggest city in the world, but compared to what I was used to it was a metropolis. Everything was a challenge for me at first. I needed help with everything from getting a Connecticut drivers license to connecting my direct TV Hartford. I am lucky that my roommate was so nice and helpful those first few months. She knew how hard it was for me, and instead of making fun of me she was always there to help. She didn’t need to be so good to me, but she was anyways. When I look back at how naïve I was it is crazy. I have matured so much and come such a long way since then. I’m not sure if I got a new roommate that was like me when I first moved here I would have enough patience to help them as much as my roommate helped me.

Coffee tables and so much more

When it's time to replace your furniture, there are so many choices that it can be bewildering at times; both in the selection of furniture, and which retailer you purchase from. It's important to make the right selection on both, because a retailer needs to know their products inside out, and be ready to stand behind what they sell. I recommend that you check out Cymax online. Cymax consists of more than 100 online specialty stores that sell everything from coffee tables to bedroom suites. Their customer representatives are knowledgeable and friendly, and ready to assist you when you give them a call.

Cymax is one of the fastest growing online retailers, commonly called e-tailers, and the reason is because they strive for excellence in every area, including their helpful knowledgeable staff, and also the products they offer. Cymax wants every customer to be satisfied, and they work diligently to assure that they are. They have one of the largest selections of products to choose from on the web today, and it all comes with a full manufacturer's warranty. If you have trouble finding exactly what you want, just send them an email and their friendly staff will try to get it for you. How many retailers offer that much service? Usually what you see is all you get, but not with Cymax. I suggest that you check them out and experience the one on one type of service they offer. Don't settle for less.

Finally, some snow!

Our winter here has been unusually warm and dry, but now that has all changed. We are in the middle of a winter storm that may dump several inches of snow. So far we only have about 1 inch, but there is ice underneath. The roads are pretty slick. I went to work this morning, but we soon decided to leave. I have a 4WD pickup but on the way home the 4WD wouldn’t work. I was worried about making it home, and wouldn’t have if I hadn’t got it to shift into 4WD finally. I had already called my wife and asked her to try to meet me somewhere on our ATV. I was glad that she didn’t have too because that would have been a very cold miserable ride for her. Hopefully our boss won’t make us work Saturday to make up for missing today. Surprisingly, tomorrow is supposed to be up to 50 degrees, and even warmer later in the week. We have a saying here that if you don’t like the weather, just hang around for a few minutes, its sure to change.

Anyway, now I am home safe and sound. I came in the house and got all warm, so now I am sleepy. I may have to settle in for a long winter’s nap. Here I go zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Guns are fun, but also necessary to our society

I love to target shoot and my wife is getting more and more interested in it too. We went out this evening and spent about 30 minutes shooting. I bought her a small shotgun a few months back, but we found out the hard way that even a small shotgun can have a big recoil. My wife is small and it knocks her back about six inches every time she fires it. Even I get a pretty good wallop from that little gun.

Accurate shooting and the proper handling of guns is something that we should all learn, even if you are not into guns or shooting as a sport. Guns are a tool and sometimes go from being simply fun or useful, to being absolutely necessary. The gun control nuts need to check out the specs before they speak, because in nearly every country that has instituted gun control, the crime rate has soared. “Why”, you ask? It’s simple; crooks have nothing to fear from defenseless people, and they also often have illegal guns. They are already breaking the law anyway so what does it matter? It’s only common sense that tells a criminal that it’s much safer to break into an undefended house than one where the owner is armed and ready. It’s time for us as a nation to stop being helpless victims and depending upon a crooked government that can’t even help themselves, to take care of us. Our country wouldn’t exist in the free state that it is today if it wasn’t for guns, both past and present. Be a citizen, not a subject; Buy a gun and learn to use it!

Good display techniques mean more money for merchants

Have you ever been to a super nice exhibit and noticed that even the floor covering under the exhibit is elegant and accentuates the advertised products? This is called trade show flooring and is used by many merchants to better show off their wares. There are several different types of this floor covering, including trade show carpet. These floor coverings have interlocking pieces to make them easy to assemble and disassemble. In addition to carpet you can get hardwood flooring; such as bamboo, and floor tiles; such as vinyl or soft rubber. It's all pretty neat really and it's something that most of us see a million times but don't think that much about. We do however, notice the nice displays that usually accompany this type of floor covering. Merchants that care enough about their product to spend the extra time and effort to attract customers in this manner will usually sell more than merchants that are careless with how they show their wares.

Another way that vendors use to attract customers is to display their products under a logo canopy. People tend to notice and remember a logo canopy better than a plain non-informative canopy. Displayers at festivals and fairs often use this type of canopy.

It's interesting when you think of it, just how merchants attract our attention, but it works. A lot of thought goes into getting products noticed, because no matter how good your items are; if people don't pay it any attention, it doesn't sell. Logo canopies and trade show flooring and carpet are just a few of the ways that help facilitate a sale.

Anti-Reflective lenses are the way to go with your new eyeglasses

Zenni Optical has done it again! Not only do they have the lowest prices on high quality eyewear, they now have a very useful product called oleophobic lenses. These are lenses that have an anti reflective coating that will repel fingerprints, dust; even water and oil. It also reduces reflections that your glasses make in photographs and while driving or in overhead light. It's a pretty neat invention for sure, and one that everyone buying new eyeglasses should consider.

Zenni Optical is well known for their low priced eyeglasses. Some sell for less than $10, but are still high quality and stylish. So what would you expect to pay for a nice pair of eyeglasses that have the anti reflective coating mentioned above? I checked it out and found them for $35.95 each! That may be less that what you would pay for gasoline to shop around. If you spend more than $50 you also get free shipping, so buy a couple of pairs to accentuate your wardrobe.

Zenni keeps their prices low by manufacturing their own eyeglasses and sending them straight from the factory to you. There is no middle man and very little advertising. You are not paying for the name, you are paying for the quality. The name is free and it speaks for itself; Zenni Optical, check them out!

Paranoid wife

This guest post from Lewis Beck

My wife and I have both had a very stressful past couple months at our jobs. We realized we needed a quick getaway. It didn’t matter where we went, but we really needed to get away. My wife has always been worried about leaving the house. She is paranoid about what might happen while we are away. Thankfully, we are able to check on our house at any time through Home-Alarm-Systems.com. It is a great feature and we definitely take advantage of it. My wife worries about everything and I know she is always thinking someone is out to get us. I try to comfort her, but I honestly think she is crazy. I think it is something she learned from her mother. Her mom watches too much television and therefore always dreams up the strangest situations. Even though my wife makes fun of her mom, she is just like her. I hope one day she sees it and gets rid of her paranoia, but I am not hopeful for that to happen anytime soon.

Vacation is over, but my thankfulness lives on

It’s hard to believe that the holidays are behind us and my week off is already gone. It’s back to the ol’ grind, but I have a lot to be thankful for. Even though it’s hard to get out of bed early every morning to go to work, I have to remember that I am lucky to have a job, and I am lucky that my job brings in enough money to pay for our needs, and a lot of our wants. Most of the world is not so lucky. I feel so sorry for some of the third world countries where people may work from sunup to sundown, and still not be able to even have enough to eat. We are a spoiled people here in America, used to having more than we need, and used to having the assurance of unemployment or welfare to help us along when times get hard. Once again, most of the world is not so lucky. A lot of people abuse our system and it makes me sick to see lazy people taking advantage of our hard work. When I was visiting overseas I saw old people and children begging, sometimes laying in the streets because they had nowhere else to go. It’s time for us here in America to take pride in what we can do, as individuals, and as a nation. Sometimes I wish the able people who refuse to work were forced to live in one of the third world countries for awhile. They would learn to swim or drown in a hurry. It seems that more and more people are giving up and taking advantage of our system, and no wonder, it’s what our government gives rewards for. To work and to try is to be penalized for making the effort. To quit and become helpless means free housing, medical care, food stamps, etc etc. I never thought I would live to see the day when people and government came with built in obsolescence, but it’s rapidly becoming the norm.

I want to take time here to say “thank you God for giving me and my family enough. Thank you for providing us a way, and good enough health to take advantage of it. Remind me every day when I complain about getting up early to go to work, that I am luckier than billions of people in this world”. To all of you reading this, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. I also hope you always have enough, but only if you try….

A mining company in Canada has a mine in the Philippines

My wife is from the Philippines, so naturally I am interested in the cultures and economic development of the country. I recently found out that there is a mining company in Canada that is dedicated to the development of the Taysan Copper-Gold Porphyry Project. The project is 11,254 hectares in size and has two known deposits; one of which is the Antipolo Epithermal Gold Mine, and the other is the Taysan Deposit: which is a large copper-gold porphyry deposit. In case you are not familiar with the term porphyry deposit; it means that the deposit has formed during the transition and cooling of magma to rock. Porphyry copper deposits are the largest known source of copper ore.

The Taysan Project is not new; it dates back to 1968, and has 195 drill holes totaling 44,531m. The project has an expected 25 year mine life with a payback of about 3 years. It's a highly feasible venture because the first 7 years are projected to have exceptionally low production costs with a much lower strip ratio than the industry average. The Taysan Project contains not only gold and copper, but also silver, magnetite, and other by products as well.

I am glad that my wife's native country is showing signs of improved economics. I'm sure that the Taysan Project will help a lot by furnishing jobs for many. The Project is located in Batangas Province, on the south west side of Luzon Island. It's about 100km south of Manila.
