Have you ever noticed that when you do a search on the internet, your browser usually brings up more results than you could possibly look at? Sometimes the number of results are in the millions. Have you ever looked at all of the many results? Of course not, and neither has anyone else. Most of those results are just wasted space because nobody ever goes to the sites they represent. In fact most people don't look past the top 10 and very rarely do they look at more than 30 results, or past the 3rd page when they do a search. There is really very little need for the other billions of sites to even be online. They are the victims of bad search engine optimization, and for some it is unfortunate because they probably have some really useful products or information that few people will ever see. It is like the old adage, "Don't hide your light under a bushel, let it shine for all to see".
If you have a website of your own how can you hone your site to make sure that the search engines will put it at or near the top of the results list? One important factor is keyword strategy. You want to have keywords that are often searched for and have good conversion rates. Another very important factor is to have quality content on your site. All of the top search engines put a lot of emphasis on that, and of course it only makes common sense. There are already too many junk sites out there taking up space and using up your time. Imagine how impossible the net would be to navigate if every website attempt was treated equally. Actually there is a lot to know about good search engine optimization, and few of us have the time or knowledge to do it well. It is best to hire a reputable professional to get your site noticed.
When you are planning your site remember that you want to stand out from the crowd. That means good content, good keywords, being an authority on whatever space you are in, and having great search engine optimization. It all works together and when done properly, your site will get a lot of traffic. The sites that you see pop up first when you search did not get there by accident. It was planned well, and more than likely done by a professional.
